VOTE EARLY AND IN PERSON!

The Supreme Court’s recent ruling on last-minute changes to voting rules may offer reassurance. But voters should remain alert to potential disruptions in the 2026 election.

Three concerns deserve attention:

  1. Voter-registration removals. Routine voter-roll maintenance can sometimes remove eligible voters, including those who fail to return confirmation notices.
  2. Mail-in ballot rejections. Rejection rates vary across states and elections. Strict requirements or changes in enforcement can cause otherwise valid votes to go uncounted.
  3. Disruptions near polling places. Law-enforcement activity, traffic congestion, or an intimidating atmosphere could make voting more difficult or discourage turnout.

Whatever your political affiliation, there are practical steps you can take: check your registration, know your state’s voting requirements, and consider voting early in person where available.

Voting early in person avoids mail-ballot rejection risks, gives you time to address registration problems, and reduces exposure to Election Day disruptions. No approach eliminates every risk, but planning ahead helps protect your opportunity to vote.
