The United States is facing an election crisis. More Americans distrust our election system. Distrust in elections is higher in the U.S. than in any other developed country. Some of the distrust comes from disputed elections like 2000 and 2020. Some comes from politicians trashing the system and complaining that non-citizens are voting, and voting machines are stealing votes. Some comes from the polarization between the two parties.
Panic over what could go wrong in 2026 is increasing. The President continues to suggest we nationalize voting. He has also complained about cheating in mail-in voting. The Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, has said she plans to dispatch ICE officers to voting centers across the country to “ensure we have the right people voting.” These potential threats have significantly increased voters’ concerns over the next election.
We believe our country needs to adopt bipartisan comprehensive changes to our election systems so Republicans, Democrats, and Independents will trust the results. Many of these changes are complex and will require legislation.
However, we believe there is a simple idea that can remove the threat from the 2026 election and reduce the heat between the two parties.
In this presentation, we will describe the problems with our election system and then offer one simple suggestion that almost everyone can follow, which will eliminate the risks from attacks on mail-in voting as well as the presence of ICE agents or other military in the streets of our cities.
